Alcona Health Center offers comprehensive dental care. In addition to our core services, a full team of dental professionals—including dental assistants, dentists, and dental hygienists—are available at our Alpena and Oscoda Dental locations. Furthermore, we’ve expanded our dental program to include a Registered Dental Hygienist at both the Cheboygan Campus and Lincoln Clinic locations. At these sites, hygienists are available for cleanings, exams, fluoride treatments, and oral health screenings. When necessary, hygienists also provide referral services to local dentists to ensure continuity of care.

School-based Dental Program

Healthy smiles start early! Regular dental check-ups every six months help prevent cavities, monitor development, and promote good oral hygiene. To ensure children have access to essential dental care, Alcona Health Center brings dental services directly to schools—eliminating common barriers such as transportation, scheduling conflicts, and lost work time for parents.
Our school-based dental program serves Alpena County elementary schools, including Hinks, Besser, Lincoln, Wilson, Sanborn, Ella White, and Alpena Thunder Bay Junior High. In Alcona County, we visit Alcona Elementary, and in Iosco County, we provide services at Richardson Elementary.
Services include dental exams, cleanings, X-rays, fluoride treatments, and sealants. Visits take place in the spring (April–June) and fall (September–December), with exact dates based on each school’s schedule.
To enroll your child, complete the necessary forms at least two weeks in advance. Forms are available hereand can be submitted digitally to dental@alconahc.org or turned in as a physical copy at the Alpena/Oscoda Dental Office or your child’s school front office.

Dental sealants are thin, tooth-colored coatings that are applied to the chewing surface of back teeth, usually molars, to prevent cavities by blocking out deep grooves in the teeth.

What are the benefits of sealants?

Sealants prevent cavities by keeping food and bacteria from sticking in the deep grooves and pits of molars. Reducing cavities means reducing the need for more expensive dental treatments such as fillings, crowns, and root canals. Sealants are an economical way to keep teeth healthy for years to come.
