We are looking for a highly motivated, resourceful, and talented individual to join our team as a training specialist for the Electronic Health Record (E.H.R) / Practice Management (PM) systems. This is a full time (40 hour per week) position in our Harbor Springs, Cheboygan, and Alcona Health Center locations.

General Summary:

The EHR/Practice Management Training Specialist conducts training and development programs to ensure physician and staff knowledge of installed electronic health records (EHR) software, as well as any related IS software. Works closely with the Health Information Supervisor to understand EHR application changes and/or new functionality for inclusion into the training curriculum.

Overview of Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Trains staff on Electronic Health Records systems and practice management procedures.
    1. Provides initial training on the EHR/PM system to staff.
    2. Follows-up with trained staff to ensure proper use of the system and provides ongoing training on the EHR/PM system as needed.
    3. Develops and implements guidelines for the training of all staff.
    4. Maintains all appropriate documentation and reports, including training acknowledgements, worksheets, competencies, and incident reports.
  2. Acts as systems resource for the health center.
    1. Oversees daily operations of EHR and implements changes or improvements as necessary.
    2. Troubleshoots internal EHR issues raised by ACH staff and reports all issues to ACH EHR Software Liaison and appropriate site leaders.
    3. Monitors EHR functioning at all assigned sites and troubleshoots any issues on site.
    4. Completes quarterly provider/MSS organizer audits and documents results; submits results to appropriate parties for review.
    5. Develops and implements guidelines for the training of all staff, which include creating and revising all software work flow documents.
    6. Maintains all appropriate documentation and reports, including training acknowledgements, worksheets, competencies, and incident reports.
    7. Maintains confidentiality of protected health information at all times.
    8. Maintain proper attendance and punctuality; stays within attendance/punctuality policy guidelines.
    9. Special projects as assigned.

Desired Experience:

  1. 1-5 years EHR/PM training and support.
  2. 1-5 years medical office or similar setting experience.
  3. 1-5 years customer service.


  1. Possesses advanced general skills, including written and verbal communications skills, computational and computer skills, and mathematical knowledge frequently acquired through completion of a general Bachelor’s Degree program or Associate’s degree with acquired business experience.

Technical Skills & Abilities:

  1. Prepares more complex documents in Microsoft Word, including creating tables, charts, graphs and other elements.
  2. Uses Microsoft Excel to analyze data, including the use of formulas, functions, lookup tables and other standard spreadsheet elements.
  3. Develops sophisticated presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint, including the use of embedded objects, transitions and other elements.

Communications Skills

  1. Effectively communicates their opinions and extrapolations of information they collect and synthesize/analyze.
  2. Exercises tact and diplomacy in the resolution of mild conflicts or disagreements.
  3. Requires the effective communication of written information (including electronic correspondence).
  4. Requires the compilation and analysis of information prepared in effective written form, including correspondence, reports, articles or other documentation.
  5. Employees must determine appropriate methods of communicating information through the use of tables, graphs, charts and other visual forms.
  6. Requires employees to effectively convey technical information to non-technical audiences.
  7. Requires the effective communication of information during informal and formal verbal presentations.


  1. Job duties are typically performed in a typical office environment.
  2. Job duties require ability travel by multiple means including public transportation.

Required Certification and/or Licensures:

  1. Possesses a current State of Michigan driver’s license and valid automobile insurance.
