Dental Assistant


Alcona Health Center’s Dental Office in Oscoda is recruiting a Dental Assistant to join our team. This position would be 36 hours a week (Mon-Thurs 7:30am to 5:30pm) and offer full time benefits. Our ideal candidate would be licensed as a Registered Dental Assistant, or have excellent communication skills, and adaptability to learn and work in a new field. We value experience but are willing to train the right candidate!

What you will Need:

Strong organizational skills, and attention to detail. The ability to work independently and as part of a team. Knowledge of dental procedures and terms, or the ability to quickly learn this information. Excellent communication skills, being courteous and friendly to patients.

Some of what you will do:

  • Prepare operatories for dental procedures according to safety and infection control guidelines
  • Working with the dentist on procedures; positioning instruments for dentist’s access, suctioning, and passing instruments.
  • Take and record medical and dental histories, and vital signs of a patient.
  • Expose diagnostic dental x-rays.
  • Take impressions, and pour study casts.
  • Instruct patients on oral hygiene and post-operative recommendations as prescribed the dentist.
  • Schedule patient appointments.
  • Answer phones, scan documents, verify insurance information.

Qualifications:

Requires work-related skills at a higher level than completion of high school, including written and verbal communications skills, computational and computer skills, mathematical, technical or health care related knowledge frequently acquired through the completion of a trade school, para-professional, or certificate type program. Requires specific knowledge and training in dental assisting, typically acquired during completion of a certificate program with duration of up to a year, duties can be learned in training or on the job.

Pharmacy Technician

Alcona Health Center’s Pharmacy Department is adding a full time (40 hour) Pharmacy Technician to our staff.  Our pharmacy technicians take important steps to ensure all medication needs and regulatory compliance standards are met for our patients, provide amazing customer service, demonstrate ethical conduct and maintain patient confidentiality at all times. This position will regularly work at our Alpena and Lincoln pharmacy locations.

Here’s What You Will Need:

A strong customer service orientation, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, knowledge of and respect for HIPAA and patient confidentiality rules, ability to use and understand verbal and written communication to interact with patients and colleagues, strong attention to accuracy and detail, and be comfortable with working in a fast-paced work environment.

Here is Some of What You Will Do:

  • Deliver quality customer service to patients, responding to inquiries, questions, or requests, and referring them to the pharmacist for medical information.
  • Verifying the accuracy of patient information.
  • Counting prescription medication, filling prescriptions, and typing and attaching medication labels.
  • Performing inventory audits and purchasing supplies and medication.
  • Process patient insurance and work to create the best outcome for our patients.
  • Actively look for ways to help people, and do so in a friendly manner.
  • Maintains proper storage and security conditions for drugs.

PIN Clerk/Pharmacy Technician


Alcona Health Center’s Pharmacy Department is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic PIN Clerk/Pharmacy Technician. This is a full-time (40 hrs/wk) role, with a generous benefit package.

The PIN Clerk/Pharmacy Technician works with patients, drug manufacturers and medical providers to make pharmaceutical products affordable to patients without the financial means to pay for them. This position is also responsible for providing pharmaceutical services to patients by interpreting and preparing medication orders from health care providers; and assuring that pharmaceuticals dispensed are in accordance with policies and procedures, federal and state laws, regulations and standards. This position is also responsible for ensuring patients receive safe and appropriate medication therapy, with a focus on quality customer services and sensitivity. The position holder will work at our Alpena and Lincoln locations.

Licensed pharmacy technician required.

Substance Abuse Program Coordinator


Job Summary:

Alcona Health Center currently has an opening for a full time Substance Abuse Program Coordinator. This position will be location in Alpena, MI. The Substance Abuse Program Coordinator will be responsible for working with external community partners and internally on substance use disorder through education and awareness, assessment, case management, and referral coordination.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES OF THE POSITION-

  • Work in collaboration with substance use disorder staff to coordinate and implement and expand internal and external initiatives, strategies, and programs aimed at increasing awareness of substance abuse while improving linkages to resources.
  • Works with partner agencies, organizations, and institutions to develop substance use disorder prevention strategies with specific goals and objectives.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with community organizations and their points of contact. Updates Alcona Health Center Behavioral Health Staff of development, implementation, expansion, and progress of the substance use disorder initiative.
  • Keep accurate records related to program requirements.
  • Maintains proper attendance and punctuality; stays within attendance/punctuality policy guidelines.
  • Special projects as assigned.

PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED-

  • Possesses specific advanced knowledge skills, including written and verbal communications skills, computational, computer and technical skills, and mathematical knowledge frequently acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree program with a recognized major and/or equivalent experience.
  • Possesses the knowledge and/or equivalent training in current practices of Behavioral Health, Health and Human Services, Public Health or other applicable fields.
  • Possesses an understanding of the trade/profession at a level that allows the employee to select methods for others to use (from those already in existence in the profession).
